CULTURAL INFLUENCES
Because my story is about ancient human spirits, of course I've been influenced by some ancient tribes and cultures. Here are the ones that I found the most inspiring and significant for my purpose.
ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIANS
Aboriginal Australians, according to researchers and genetic studies, are one of the oldest living populations in the world ( outside Africa ).
It is an incredibily mysterious and interesting culture. There used to be more than 300 Aboriginal spoken languages, today there are only seventy-five languages left.
They developed their own mythology, which is called Dreamtime legends ( Alchera ) .
The Dream-time is the time when their anchestors originated the world.
Their myths are accepted as truth therefore their religion turns around the Dream-time legends. They believe in spirits, and they use totems to identify theirself, their family or a social role. Unfortunately many aboriginal children were taken away from their family by colonizers and converted ( by choice or not ) to christianity. Colonizers though they were doing a good thing for them, today this doesn’t happen anymore of course, but it must be said Aboriginal Australians have been subject of many injustices and cruelty, and there is a high risk that their beautiful cultural background will slowly disappear. There are not many tribes left, some are just made up for tourism, and there is a considerable percentage of homeless / alcoholic australian aboriginals. They never completely adapted to Western culture and their culture has been damaged a lot. There are many interesting facts about them, but the one I found more incredible it’s their art, which is infused with mystical meanings, magic, dreams and visions. They were very intuitive and took their dreams very seriously. Sometimes, they would dream a melody, and the next morning they would draw it as a sort of map. This is how they knew where to go for example to find food, water or to meet with other aboriginal. It is said they used to be thelepatic , able to hear each other’s though from big distances. Bruce Chatwin, is famous for his book called the songline, which wrote after his trip in Australia. His purpose was to study Aboriginal songs and their meaning.
" The basic idea that Chatwin posits is that language started as song, and the aboriginal Dreamtime sings the land into existence. A key concept of aboriginal culture is that the aboriginals and the land are one. By singing the land, the land itself exists; you see the tree, the rock, the path, the land. What are we if not defined by our environment?" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Songlines)

WIKKA CULTURE
The wikka movement is retained a continuation of the Witch-cult.
Wicca means religion of the nature, and it is considered a modern form of paganism. It is originally from England, and it is a pretty flexible religion, which does not include a central authority. A goddess, called Moon Goddess / the Mother and a god, called Horned God or Dio Cervo, are the most important divinities, but wikkans are free to believe to a several amount of gods and goddesses too. Wicca are against violent rituals, like sacrifices, and do not practice evil spells. They believe magic never has to be used to do bad things and they prefer to focus their energies in positive and harmless rituals like celebrating the spring, honorating the Mother, healing people, purification and so on. They familiarized with natural remedies, such as herbs, home made incences, essential oils and crystals, in order to heal people or theirself from phisical or and mental / spiritual illness ( they believe the soul and the spirit can get ill too ), incorporating mystical practices like special prayers, runes, dances, witch circle, and many other things, law of attraction, intuition, visualization, and so many other things, in the hope to get rid of bad energies, demons and pain.
They have to know many things, and it takes decades to them to finally call theirself wikkans and no more apprentices.
I follow a group of wikkans and aspiring wikkans on facebook as I love to read the stories and legends they share, which are very deep and dreamy, and their testimoniances about supernatural experiences. I do not necessarely believe everything they say, but the way they see life still pretty fascinating for me, read a few books about them because finding it quite interesting! Some people call them fools, however I do believe the world should have a better connection with nature in these modern times, so I totally support them. Some people accused them to work for the devil but it is only ridiculous disinformation. History tell us witches were tortured and burned by Christians, which believed they were the daughters of the Devil. Even today, often people would naturally associate the word witch with evil.
In this link there are the 13 principles of Wiccan belief, which better explain their concept. > http://pagan-pages.org/beginning-practice/13-principles-of-wiccan-belief/
Anyway, this particular and fascinating religion, inspired me in creating my story and my design!
